FDP extension is 50% of total rest available. Total rest available is planned block time minus 50 minutes, and must be at least 3 hours.

Extensions, split duty and rest

Planned extension: Table B allows up to 14:00 for 1-2 sectors, then reduces by 30 minutes per sector to 12:30 for 5 sectors. No extension is available at 6 sectors. Extended FDPs starting 22:00-04:59 local are capped at 11:45.

WOCL: if an FDP starts in 02:00-05:59 local, the table value is reduced by 100% of the encroachment up to 2 hours. If it ends in or fully encompasses the WOCL, the reduction is 50% of the encroachment.

Split duty: a consecutive break from 3 to 10 hours gives an FDP extension equal to half the break after the 30-minute duty deduction. The planner takes the longest break in the trip automatically. More than 6 hours requires suitable accommodation.

Commander's discretion: up to 2:00 (3:00 with augmented crew) for circumstances arising after report time only, never as a planning tool, and reportable. Rest afterwards may be reduced at discretion by up to 1 hour but never below 10 hours.

Positioning (OM-A 7.6.5): all positioning at the operator's behest counts as duty but not as a sector. The FDP starts no later than the report time for the positioning journey. Positioning must be counted as a sector if split duty is claimed after less than a minimum rest period in provided accommodation.

Minimum rest: at home base, the longer of 12 hours or the preceding duty. Away from base, at least 10 hours including physiological needs. A 4-hour or greater time zone difference increases rest to at least 14 hours or the preceding duty, whichever is greater. After in-flight rest, destination rest is at least 14 hours or the preceding duty.

Padding: 60 minutes pre-flight before first blocks off, 30 minutes post-flight after last blocks on. FDP ends at last blocks on; duty ends 30 minutes later. The reporting time may be reduced to 30 minutes by commander's discretion in exceptional cases (OM-A 7.5.1); 30 minutes post-flight is a minimum.
